BA English (Hons) is a three-year programme designed to offer students a firm grasp of the English language and literature. By studying English language and literature, the student enhances their English language skills, develops an appreciation and taste for good literature, and provides some insight into the life and culture of the English-speaking communities all over the world. The learner is expected to have a historical perspective of the development of language and culture of the people. The learners will be guided to appreciate various kinds of critical approaches from the beginnings to the more complex critical and theoretical trends of recent times. Along with this, workshops, seminars, trainings, certification programmes, internships, etc. helps the students to relate and be at par with the recent trends and development.

The programme will touch base on core areas of English Literature such as Evolution of English Literature, 17th Century Prose, Metaphysical Poetry, Neo Classical Literature, American Literature, Victorian Literature etc. Industry relevant courses like Hypertext literature, Creative writing, Translation studies, Effective blogging, Drama and Performing Arts are also incorporated to ensure that students are ready to face the challenges and are given diverse career options. Upon completion of the programme, a BA English graduate can opt for jobs such as Advertising, Publishing, PR, Journalism, Media, Translation, Event Management, Film Industry etc.

The department conducts an array of knowledge dissemination programme in the form of workshops, seminars, conferences, skill development programmes, etc. The Conferences conducted by the department, witnesses participation from more than 200 cities of India and abroad.

Students get the opportunity to visit various libraries, forums for writers, media houses where students learn the recent trends in writings and specialised cultural centres where they could meet native speakers, etc.

Entry Requirements

Pass in 10+2 / Equivalent with minimum of five subjects.

Wherever grading system or any other system is followed for evaluating the performance of the candidate in the qualifying examination, the applicant should ensure that a certificate indicating the percentage obtained has to be submitted through the University / Board last studied. Applicants passing GCE / O / A level examination should have passed 4 + 3 or 5 + 2 subjects at the O & A level respectively.

The examination approved by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) only will be considered by the Garden City University, others who have passed the examination which is not in the AIU approved list shall obtain equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities.
